Many thanks for the help I received on this issue. It appears that one of my colleagues had inadvertently configured Informix for a very large amount of shared memory and the default settings in Linux meant that we were using 23 shared memory segments of about 32Mbytes. I have now reconfigured the LINUX kernel to allow a SHMMAX of 1Gbyte and a SHMALL of 64Mbyte and the shmdt: errno 22 messages have disappeared. I have posted a mesage concerning how to change the shared memory parameters for SUSE. regards Malcolm
