invoking the After-field checks
Posted in 1995
I apologise if this appears in the manual, cos I don't have the manual with me. One of my client has written a 4GL program that uses arrays. There is a field that has a AFTER FIELD clause that performs validation, as well as updates the other fields in the same row. This works fine until the user starts using arrow keys to leave that particular field. The after field clause is not invoked. So, what can be done now? I can think of two approach but don't know how to implement them. ONE) be able to intercept the ARROW keys and the PAGE-UP and PAGE-DOWN keys, and do the validation thorugh the ON KEY clause. Is it possible? TWO) to use the AFTER ROW clause for checking. This will perform the validation, but will leave the user at the wrong row. Example, if he uses the UP or DOWN arrow to leave the field, he will either be above or below the record with error. Worst case is if he uses PAGE-UP or PAGE-DOWN keys to leave the field. Thus, after checking, I need the mechanism to move back to the row that I just left, ie the row that contains error. How do one do that? I hope someone will shed some light soon. I think there is some discussion about this some time ago, but can't find it in my mails. [PS] maybe it should be added into the FAQ?? Yes, I went look at that already. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Calvin Ng email: <calvinng@technet.sg> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [DISCLAIMER] Read at your own risks.
