According to the strace man page if you install strace itself setuid
then it will work on setuid binaries, you may not want to do this
though. It should also work if you run strace as root.
You will also want to use the -f flag (follow forks) to see what the ADM
VP gets up to. This is what I see on a glibc 2.2.5 (debian woody) box.

I have tried several different versions of glibc (2.2.5, 2.3.1, 2.3.2)
and always get the same thing so I do not believe it is related to the
NPTL changes. I have even tried downloading and building the latest
versions of glibc, both 2.2 and 2.3, to no avail.
The only way I _have_ managed to get it to work is by downloading a
version of glibc from suse that was mentioned in an earlier thread and
installing IDS in a chrooted environment using this version. Not the
most streaightforward informix install I've ever done.
The version of glibc that works can be found here.
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.1/suse/i686/glibc-2.2.5-163.i686.rpm
I have no idea what suse have put in here to make it work, it appears to
be a an unrelated security release.
