Re: Informix backups

I had a similar requirement a couple of years ago, and had to write a 'setuid' program to allow this to work. Go to http://www.iiug.org, in the Software section under Database Administration utilities, you'll find my program su_ontape. It performs basic parameter checking, such as prohibiting restores. You have to have root access (or a friendly system administrator) to set permissions after the program is compiled, and you may have to change one O/S call (setresuid() may need to become setreuid()), depending on your platform. Additionally, you can use the program as a skeleton to create new programs to allow users to run many of the other Informix utilities. Mark Collins mcollins@us.dhl.com Everybody at some level realizes that the calendar is a fairly arbitrary thing, invented by humans, for reasons that have more to do with how committees are structured than with anything that's really happening in the heavens. And yet people look at the fact that the calendar is about to turn 2000, and assume there's some deity who thinks that the base 10 counting system is pretty darn important, and make all sorts of predictions of doom and gloom as a result. To me, that tells you everything you need to know about human beings -- and a whole lot about the market for the NC.
