This is true, and goes to show that Microsoft isn't too good at doing database related things. It hasn't caused us much trouble though. >Visual Basic is also not anywhere close to being object-oriented, and if you >tell me Visual Basic 6.0 is going to be object-oriented, I have to express >doubts. The lack of true object oriented programming is also a problem in Visual Basic. As you infer Microsoft does claim that ver. 6.0 is going to be object oriented, even with multiple inheritance. They are however shooting at yet another database access system, this time called ADO. Yes, I agree that Visual Basic could have been much better. I still doubt if you would be much more efficient using PowerBuilder though. If you want a language which is better go for Delphi. The only problem to consider is again it's ability to survive against the competition from Java. It's not so much the Java language as it is all the tools and the other parts of the environement that is now shaping up so good, with so much competition for creating allmost everything under the sun you could want for your development work. And remember Java isn't only for creating applets or web oriented programs, but equally well suited for standard applications. The competition will simply be very hard for everyone in the development tools bussiness. Some have allready dissapeared, others are likely to do so. Some may survive for a time, but not be extended much more.
