Shimon: Re: 1) Restore Day-1 Level-0, then apply Day-3 Level-1 2) Restore Day-1 Level-0, then apply Day-4 Level-1 Then, the logical logs since this Day-4 Level-1. These are essentially the transactions which have executed since the archive. 3) This is kinda related, in that you only need the Level-0, then the Level-1 for Day-4. Each Level-1 archive archives all the data since the last Level-0. On some systems the last Level 1 prior to another Level 0 can get to be quite large, especially if a substantial portion of the database gets modified between Level-0s. As a side note, you can not only restore back to a particular Level-1, but with OnArchive, you can also recover to a particular point-in-time, using the ondatartr utility. For example, if your Level-1 ran at 01:00 on 07Mar1997, and at 10:00 you noticed corruption on the database due to a bad program, and you can further determine that everything was O.K. up to 07:00, use the following to apply the logs up to that point (recover your Level-0 and Level-1 first, of course) RETRIEVE/LOGFILE/DISK={path}/UNTIL=07-MAR-1997:07:00:00 This really works pretty cool. I hear OnBar gives you this capability as well, BTW. -- Sky +-------(southwel@smtpgw.maricopa.gov)-------+- Maricopa County -+ | Schuyler L. The database is continuously updated (16MB logical log data per hour). Need the ability to revert the database to a previous state, and the ability to restore the database up to last valid transaction. The database gets archived (to tape) in the following manner: day 1 - level 0 day 2 - level 1 day 3 - level 1 day 4 - level 1 day 5 - level 0 ... continuous logical log backups to disk (16MB per hour). When restore is required - always do full (all dbspaces) restores. 1. How do you restore (revert) a database to the state at a given level 1 backup (say day 3) ? 2. What logical logs do you need in order to do a full restore after a crash on day 4, 2 hours after level 1 archive? Do you need all logical logs since last archive level 0, or are the logical logs since the last level 1 archive enough. 3. Do you need all level 1 archives to restore to the day 4 level or does the day 4 archive include all the info in the previous level 1 archives? Thanks. -- Shimon Gonen Phone: (619) 552-9672 Fax: (619) 552-9854 Titan Information Systems http://www.titan.com/ 3033 Science Park Road San Diego, Ca 92121
