Re: Gatewayed article surge
Posted in 1997
Walt, I just want to thank you for maintianing this list and I appreciate the work you've done to get this problem resolved. There has been a network connectivity problem between the two systems that host the gateway between informix-list and comp.databases.informix since the weekend of November 22. It has now been corrected. The effect on the gateway was that c.d.i articles went through to the mailing list normally, but messages posted directly to the list were blocked and remained in the gateway queue. There are now nearly 130 such messages waiting to be posted. I am about to turn the list->news portion of the gateway back on, or as we say in my part of the US, I'm fixing to turn it back on. :-) There is a limit on how fast gatewayed messages are posted to c.d.i to avoid overloading the news server, so it will probably take 10-12 hours for the queue to completely empty out. If you see a posting or follow-up that strikes you as being a little off-base, check to see if it might be one of these belatedly gatewayed messages before revving up that flamethrower. Some of these things are now over a week old. To those of you with sincere little news servers chugging away down the line at leaf nodes, my apologies for the surge, but this has pretty much been beyond my control. Such is life on the Net. If you're on informix-list, take this as an "all clear" follow-up to the message I posted last week about the problem.
