raw volume type for informix (fwd)

Sorry about the redundant post, folks. OK. So on an Aix 4.2 or 4.3 platform which I hope to move to, I've asked the space allocation person for raw slices (in multiples of 8K) for my dbspaces, and specified rights of 660 with informix informix. Thought that would be enough, but apparently not. Looking at the analogy with sybase's requiremnts, I'd guess the type would have to be informix, else Aix would see the volume as its own and try to deal with it. Ah yes, Art, and they are using your favorite Raid (5.0) - I have no choice in the matter: it's either go down in flames on a 486 machine or go up in flames on a shared hot IBM sp-something machine. Can anyone throw some light on this? Thanks, Nick ------- Messsage ----- Nick, What does informix expect to see for the LOGICAL VOLUME TYPE ?? For example, for sybase I change the type from JFS to SYBASEDB. thanks.... ann

The 486 does not preclude flying with Informix or RAID10. For < $1000 you could swap the mother board for a Pentium II or III at 500MHZ and get ICP Vortex RAID controllers, run SCO or Linux, add some memory and build a truly hot server for under $5000, petty cash budget stuff in some places.
