In addition to the Informix table-level permissions (I'm assuming that's what you checked), go to the ODBC administrator and look at the properties of the ODBC Data Source that you're using. Many of them have a Read Only check box. Not that that's very secure, since any knowledgable user can check/uncheck the box, but it can cause an error like you describe. I did. But, there is no property button in ODBC admin. only a config button and no boix with read-only in config.
