Reinstall your binaries and see what happens. > Do a filesystem check first to be sure the FS is not corrupted. In my case the problem was caused by a corrupted root dbspace. The reason being that somebody had linked 2 names to the same raw device rather than to separate devices. It was quite simple after the event. I also had another problem like this in the very dim and distant past. In that case it was caused by not using the raw device. That too was easy to see after the event.
