------------------------------------------------------------------------ DOCASOFT RELEASES JDBC DRIVER FOR DISTRIBUTED DATABASE ACCESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------ WHITE PLAINS(March 25, 1998) Docasoft Corporation, a start-up software company in distributed object technologies, today released JRAC 1.0, the high-performance JDBC type-3 driver for distributed database access in multi-tier enterprise applications. JRAC is a full implementation of Sun Microsystems' JDBC. JRAC includes three major parts: the JDBC driver(JRAC client), the JRAC proxy server and the JRAC server. All parts are implemented in Java. Therefore JRAC can run on any machine that supports Java. JRAC client is a very thin JDBC driver (90k in zip format) which is ideal for web-based applications where the driver must be downloaded along with the client application code from the web server. JRAC server handles the direct connection with the database engine and processes JDBC calls made by client applications. JRAC server can work with any JDBC or ODBC driver. Use of the JRAC proxy server is optional but is extremely useful when it is necessary to reduce the web host load by installing JRAC server on another machine instead of on the web server host. JRAC proxy server forwards JDBC calls to JRAC server for processing. The use of proxy server is transparent to the client applications.
