Re: How to migrate data from Oracle to Informix

There are several tools to load data from flat files: SQL LOAD statement (works with delimited files, throughput is roughly 1GB/Hr - YMMV - see the SQL reference manual) DBLOAD command (works with large files and with just about any format you care to describe - check out appendix E I think it's about pp 26 of any of the 4gl or SQL manuals throughput is similar - perhaps slightly slower - than load)). INSERT CURSOR (not exactly a tool, but a 3gl/4gl construct, a lot more work to set up, but load speeds of probably double the first two) High Performance Loader (HPL or ipload/onpload - has a nice gui, can handle just about anything and has throughput of approx 2GB/CPU/HR - YMMV (I've seen 2.3GB/CPU/HR, a colleague has seen 10GB/CPU/HR. This utility has its own manual). With XPS you don't have the HPL, but you do have the parallel loader which is more transparent, you create an external table definition and then merely 'INSERT INTO db_table SELECT * FROM ext_table. cheers j.
