Re: Version Stability

I'd consider 7.23.UC-. This has several of the problems resolved with the
7.2x product line resolved. So far it's looking pretty good.
Also, Informix is now releasing monthly interims. The last one is
7.23.UC3 and 7.23.UC4 will be going into code freeze in a couple of days.
This plan is enabling us to get corrections to the customer much quicker
than in the past when the interim was based on a customer simply
requesting it. Also, this is enabling the interim to be much more stable
than in the past as it is more organized, is running the complete qa test
suites, and is utilizing the actual porting machines that were used in the
original release.
I'd be really hard pressed to move to 7.14.xxx at this point. While the
7.14 product is relativly stable, it is a product that is approching the
end of it's life cycle. If you should run into a problem with 7.23, it'll
be much quicker and easier to get it corrected in 7.23 than 7.14, since
all of the patches will be placed in 7.23 before (if) they make it to
7.14.
Finally, by moving to 7.23, you will be in the position to take advantage
of the features in the 7.2 product line that is absent in the 7.1 product
line. This includes high performance loader, onbar, multi-byte character
data, year 2000 support, enterprise replication, plus a lot of performance
enhancements absent in the 7.1 product line.
