Yes, temporary tables, in Informix 5.xx, are created in the rootdbs as are sort work files if you do not set the DBTEMP environment variable in the application's (or for network connections in the sqlexecd, network demon's) environment. Increase the size of your root dbspace to allow for temp tables. Alternatively, if your logs are in the root dbspace you should/could create a dbspace just for them and move the logical and physical logs to the new dbspace. This will improve performance greatly as the logs will not contend for I/O bandwidth with the reserved pages and temp tables. Art S. Kagel
