Paul Watson reported ontape restore of a 15GB tape crashing (core dump) on IDS 9.40.FC2, Solaris 8, after listing the dbspaces. The Big Potatoe asked about TAPEDEV. Paul then found known bug 164188: restore can crash when MIRROR was 1 at backup time without root dbspace mirroring. Setting the MIRROR flag to 0 made the restore work.

9.40.FC2 on solaris 8 is coring on the restore (15GB tape), reads the
start of tape OK, displays the dbspaces info then goes splat. There is
a call logged via Pisspoor Advantage but no joy so far. Anybody else
had the same problem?
Cheers

Humm, what is the TAPEDEV setting, and more importantly what does it
state it was when you start the restore (i.e. the bit just before the
list of dbspaces)?
Use typescript ontape -r to get the info.

Apparently it's known bug,
164188 ONTAPE RESTORE CAN CRASH WHEN AT BACKUP TIME MIRROR WAS 1 BUT NO
MIRRORING FOR ROOTDBS WAS ACTIVE
Many thanks to Mark Greco for digging it out for me. Reset the MIRROR
flag to 0 and it works a treat now
Cheers

Further to the bug. The workaround (at least on this system)
is to set MIRROR to 0 and the tapes restore. No informix mirroring
is used so it should have been 0 anyway
