IDS Install
Posted in 2016
Installing IDS 12.10.FC6IE on RHEL 7.2, the installer's Webserver Configuration step rejected port 8080 (and 8081, 8082, 10000) with "Port already used", on just one of three otherwise similar servers; netstat showed nothing listening and firewall changes didn't help. Suggestions were to check lsof and to open an IBM installation-support ticket. The poster noticed the failing box used a static IP; switching to DHCP let the install proceed, and later switching back to static also worked, so the root cause was never confirmed. Likely culprit suggested: hostname/FQDN not resolving to an IP bound to a network adapter (DNS vs hostname mismatch). No definitive resolution recorded.

I am trying to install iif.12.10.FC6IE.linux-x86_64.tar on RHEL 7.2. When I get to the Webserver Configuration step, it defaults to port 8080 and my hostname. When I hit Next I get this error: Port Validation Error Port 8080 is already used on this system. Enter another port number. I am setting up 3 servers. I only get this error on one server. The other two install correctly. For the most part, all 3 are configured the same. A few differences like the problem server has a printer installed. I've tried to use different ports... 8081, 8082, 10000. I tried setting the firewall to "Trusted". I tried opening port 8080 on the firewall. I tried turning the firewall service off. As far as I can tell, port 8080 is not in use. It doesn't show up on netstat. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. David
I haven't seen this problem myself, but if no one has any ideas, try calling IBM support. Even Innovator-C, which is released without support (or with separately purchased support) comes with installation support IB. Art Art S. what does lsof show for the port ? Cheers Paul > I am trying to install iif.12.10.FC6IE.linux-x86_64.tar on RHEL 7.2. It occurred to me that the problem server uses a static IP while the servers that work use DHCP. I changed the problem server to DHCP and it gets past the error. DHCP came up with the same IP, Gateway, and DNS I used for manual config. Now I'm just curious as to why DHCP works and static doesn't. Could it be http://www.iiug.org/forums/oat/index.cgi/read/895 " the hostname needs to resolve to an IP address that is associated with a network adapter" ?? I looked at that link yesterday. Thats what made me think to try DHCP. This morning, I changed it back to static and the install is working. No idea why. My first guess would be a mismatch between the DNS configure FQDN and the hostname. Cheers Paul > I looked at that link yesterday.
