NEWERA - 3.0 - How to set up on a stand alone PC

Hi I've recently installed NE3.0 TE1 on WIN95 at home. I seem to remember that when you go in to the RSAT for the first time, you have to create a private workspace and a shared workspace. If, as I recall, the directory has to be a shared one, how do you configure it on a stand alone PC? You cannot share a directory, you do not have any hosts or services file. I have a copy of my database which I will copy down onto my PC but at the moment I don't know how to configure it for use. Please help.
