Re: Server won't initialize
Posted in 2005
Hi,
setting SHMBASE to 0 certainly will not help.
This is valid on HP-UX, but not other platforms.
Check the "Machine Specific Notes" in
"$INFORMIXDIR/release/en_us/0333/" directory for
the recommended setting of SHMBASE for your
platform. A letter "L" or "l" (for long) added to the
number may be significant.
Other than that use a configuration at the limit that can
still start IDS correctly. With that running do a system
command like "ipcs -m" as user "root" to see, how many
SHM segments were created on OS level and how big
they are.
[ If IDS requests a big segment, but the OS allows only
smaller ones, then IDS allocates several small ones
(that show as such in "ipcs -m" output), but will handle
them as one big segment (as shown in "onstat -g seg"
output). ]
You have configured your system to allow a maximum
of 15 SHM segments (on OS level) per process. This
may be the limit you are hitting. "ipcs -m" should reveal
such a condition.
In that case either tune your system to allow larger single
segments or to allow for more SHM segments per
process.
At least that's where I would start figuring out what the
problem is.
Regards,
Martin
