pathname of chunk
Posted in 1994
I recently changed the disk array which makes up my 1 raw device (1 chunk)
with my rootdbspace and another dbspace. The chunk is slightly bigger than
the one it replaced. 2 gig now instead of 1.8 gig. I dbexported the database
before replacing the disk array, then re initialized the online instance with
new values for total size and offsets for the dbspaces. While inputting the
info for the path of my second dbspace (which holds the 1 database we use) it
would not allow me to enter the same path name used for rootdbspace with an
offset. BEFORE I made the change the pathname for my chunk was the same for
both dbspaces with an offset "/dev/_online_root" which is/was linked to
"/dev/rdsk/vdisk10" ( the disk array). I have linked the raw device
"/dev/rdsk/vdisk10" to "/dev/online_root" but /dev/online_root will not
work as path for my second dbspace now. I instead had to give the path
/dev/rdsk/vdisk10 as pathname for the second dbspace with its offset from
rootdbspace. Can anyone tell me why this happened?????
Also Why does the informix manual stress not to rely on dbexport for any
type of backup of the database? If it is good enough for migration why not
backup? (given the size of the database is not too big) I do level 0 archive
and also a dbexport which gets put to tape and disk each night. Thank God
I did since there were several times my archive was bad due to bad disk blocks.

(speed is great!)
Well enough already.. Thanks for any info in advance. Also thanks to
Mr. Parker and Leffler for their help with earlier questions I had.
