Re: Reducing Extents on Informix 5.0 and hp-ux

Questions 1 and 2 have been answered already, so this message addresses
number 3 only. When you initially installed informix, you gave the
path to the rootdbspace in the initialization screen of tbmonitor. This
path is also readily available by checking your tbconfig file. Hopefully,
the rootdbspace chunk, and all chunks added after this, where set up
with symbolic links to the actual raw disk partition. If so then your
job is easy: Just dbexport all databases in the chunk, then bring
online to "off-line" mode, then drop the old symbolic link and make
point a new link with the same name to the new raw disk partition, then
bring online back to "online" and run dbimport for the databases. This
assumes (I know that's a bad word), that the partitions (old and new) are
the same size. You also must have made the permissions of the new
partition, the same as the old partition. If you're not moving the
rootdbspace, and are only moving chunks that have been added after
initialization, then you don't even have to take online to "offline."
Just dbexport the databases in the chunk, drop the chunk, change the
symbolic link, add the chunk, and run dbimport.
Now it goes without saying that this is the major reason that
symbolic links to the disk devices should be used. If you didn't
use them then it will entail a little more work but you still don't
have to reinstall Informix. If you need more info just email me.
Good luck!
