PATH question

I recently added this PATH statements to /etc/profile file. :
INFORMIXDIR=/user1/informix
PATH=$PATH:$INFORMIXDIR/bin
ONCONFIG=onconfig.company
INFORMIXSERVER=ol_company
export INFORMIXDIR PATH ONCONFIG INFORMIXSERVER
When I login from my terminal, and do a env, I got all the correct values of
the variables but when I do the env from my console, I found that :
INFORMIXSERVER=<hostname of my server>
When I do a su to root from my terminal I also got the hostname of my
server.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance !
Some unixes, such as SCO, do not run /etc/profile for user root. You need to
edit /.profile.
