Rootdbs gets filled
Dear All,
I need ur help. I have IDS 9.3 on sun solaris 8. My Informix server is going
for a toss. I am attaching my onconfig file for ur ref. My users are
connecting thru java. They are opening a lot of connections, when i do onstat
-g ses, i get around 2000 sessions as a result of which the rootdbs gets
filled, i have added 4 new chunks, but still it gets filled. We cannot
continue with the work. I am stuck up, not sure what size to increase. What
shared memory parameters need to be set. By default informix allocates
additional shared memory. Please advice.
Best Regards,
lloyd

Hi bro,
rootdbs seems pretty small:
ROOTSIZE 30000 # Size of root dbspace (Kbytes)
- Consider a bigger rootsize (256M, 512M, your milleage may vary)
- I suppose you've set up a temp dbspace, right? its almost a basic rule for
an installation.
- move logical logs to its own dbspace
- if possible, check buffers, nettype and shmem values for better performance
hope it helps
Dear Lloyd,
The number of sessions will not affect the space in rootdbs - at least not
directly.
To check why rootdbs gets filled, you will have to find out , what
exactly is stored
in rootdbs. oncheck -pe may give you a hint.
You may want to move application data and indexes to a different dbspace.
For 2000 sessions SHMVIRTSIZE is too low, that's why IDS allocates
dynamically more memory.
To determine a reasonable value for SHMVIRTSIZE check the total size of
your
virtual shared memory (onstat -g seg) when the system has reached a state
where no more
memory gets allocated.
Use this value for SHMVIRTSIZE (! Size in the output of onstat -g seg will
be in bytes, ONCONFIG
needs value entered in KB)
Regards
Tilman

Dear Esteban, Tilman Thanks a lot for your feedback, i will work on it. Best Regards, Lloyd
Hi lloyd,
One pollthread can handle about 200 connections. In that case u can
increase the value of poll thread and number of connection in the NETTYPE
field.
Also one more thing I have noticed in ur onconfig file that tcpip
connection is configured to run in CPU VP, configure it to run on NET VP
and shared memory connection on CPU VP.
Regards,
Shailesh M
