Upgrade from Online 5.10 and 5.20 to IDS 10.x
Posted in 2006
Question: can Informix OnLine 5.10/5.20 be upgraded directly to IDS 10.x, or is an unload/load needed? Replies agreed there is no direct in-place path from 5.x to 10. Options given: export the data and reload it into v10 (preferred by some anyway), or do an interim upgrade to at least 7.24 and then migrate straight to v10 — as stated in Carlton Doe's "Chat with the Labs" migration webcast (slides 11–13 at IBM's Informix webcasts page). A follow-up asking for a list of reserved words across versions 5–10 was answered by pointing to the Informix Migration Guide V10.0, page 1-4.

Is there currently a direct upgrade available or am I looking at an unload/load scenario? Take care. Clifton M. Bean Informix DBA / AIX System Admin Currency Technics & Metrics 1431 Greenway Drive #700 Irving, Texas 75038 Main (972) 812-1411 x244 Toll Free (800) 834-8807 x244 Fax (469) 417-0665
It's been about 9 years, but I do not believe there is an in-place upgrade from 5.xx to 7/9/10.xx. You'll have to export the data and import it into 10. I'd want to do that regardless. Art S. Clifton I think you will find an unload/load will be quickest and cleanest. Going 5 to 10 will involve (I think) 5 -> 7(or 9) then -> 10 Keith On 13/09/06, Clifton Bean <cbean@ctm.com> wrote: > > Is there currently a direct upgrade available or am I looking at an > unload/load scenario? > > Take care. > > Clifton M. I too listened to Carlton give his presentation and heard this information. My apologies to all, I had not scanned the presentation document before submitting the question. BTW, I am now looking for a document which will list all reserved words listed for all versions between 5 and 10. I saw the list given in the presentation (which listed words for 9 thru 10 but not for 6 and 7. Any help would be appreciated. Take care.
