Informix Worldwide User Conference (IWUC)
Posted in 1998
Topics: Connectivity: ESQL/C, 4GL & Embedded SQL
Greetings from IWUC, It's half time at the first day of IWUC, or the Worldwide User Group Meeting, as it was also referred to. What a day and what a way to re-establish an old name for a new company. That was the message from Bob Finnocchio, CEO of Informix. Informix is a new company. This was substantiated by the actions that Informix has taken over the past year. Sure, he took the time go through all of the financials current and future plans and the management changes but the actions have a lot more to say than the presentation did. What have we been hearing in the last year? Informix is listening. What have they done to prove it? 1) As a member of the International Informix User Group Board of Directors, I have seen, first hand proof that Informix is listening. Our contact within Informix is with the decision makers. Our opinions are requested before a decision is made. Our input, prompted or unprompted, is being taken quite seriously. 2) It's official, not only did Informix announce that they will port Informix products to Linux, they released 2 of those products TODAY. Standard Engine and ESQL/C are currently available for Linux. This is a direct reaction to user needs voiced through the IIUG. What does this do for the Informix user? This now gives us the assurance that, by organizing and focusing our needs and voices through the IIUG, Informix will, at the very least, listen to our requests and work with us to make Informix products better and make Informix a better company. And as Informix users and companies that have based our business and profits on Informix this ultimately makes our lives better. More from the conference as the week goes on. Regards, Shawn Dagg IIUG, Board of Directors
