Upgrading from Informix 7.22 to 7.23, problems?

Hi! I am just wondering here if upgrading from Informix version 7.22 to 7.31 might cause us problems. We are running Informix and our software on HP-UX 10.20 and now this software is compiled using embedded sql in 7.22. So I quess the question is: is there difference in this area between 7.22 and 7.31? If there is, what kind of? Is there anything else we should be aware of? BR; Teemu

Your subject line talks about 7.23; your message talks about 7.31. Which do you need to know about, really? Actually, much the same answers apply to both. The 7.23 ESQL/C has an extra library, libixglx.so, compared with the 7.22 version. Consequently, it is wise to assume that you should recompile your programs, or continue to run them in the 7.22 environment but move the engine into the more recent environment. You'd have two different INFORMIXDIR's on your machine. You should also, probably, use 7.24 in preference to 7.23. The version of ESQL/C for use with 7.31 servers is part of ClientSDK, and is either CSDK 2.20 or CSDK 2.30. The CSDK 2.20 contains ESQL/C version 9.20. It has another different set of libraries and a new set of interfaces. It should run older code without problems through a layer of mapping and indirection. I'd want to recompile to get rid of that (probably small) performance hit. But then, I tend to think that you should recompile at the drop of a hat. There are no mandatory source code changes that I can think of. Unless you want to exploit new features, you only need to recompile. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.60 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
Thank You Jonathan for the information you gave! There was a mess up with version numbers in my post, the version I really ment was 7.31. However I got the information that I needed from your answer. -We will recompile just in case...
