Installation error on Ubuntu desktop
Posted in 2009
Simon couldn't install Informix Dynamic Server 11.5 on an Ubuntu 9 desktop: the InstallShield installer failed immediately with "could not load wizard specified in /wizard.inf (104)". Suggestions included checking the supported-platforms list, running ids_install with -console and an explicit -javahome (and later "-javahome none" to force the bundled IBM JRE), and calling IBM support. None of these fixed it on the desktop. Simon worked around it by installing on Ubuntu 8.04 Server instead, where it installed fine; the underlying cause was never identified.

Evening folks I'm trying to install Informix 11.5 onto my Ubuntu desktop machine, with little success. I've downloaded the tar archive from the members area, untarred it (as informix as suggested to someone previously), and having created informix user and group attempted to run ids_install as root. I get a message saying that Installshield Wizard is being initialised and the Launched. This is immediately followed by the error The wizard cannot continue because of the following error: could not load wizard specified in /wizard.inf (104) Art suggested that this was a packaging issue on earlier releases. Anyone know if this has been resolved or if an alternate download source is available as this is driving me nuts! TIA Simon

Try running it as: ids_install -console -java-home /usr/bin Art Art S. I've tried specifying the javahome path and letting the installer figure it out for itself. Also tried the -console option or -gui with the same result. Initializing InstallShield Wizard........ Launching InstallShield Wizard........ The wizard cannot continue because of the following error: could not load wizard specified in /wizard.inf (104) I'm getting to the point of installing a server in a separate partition and trying from there. As an aside if I set the javahome path to /usr/bin - JVM checks fail because the installer adds /bin onto the path specified on the command line.
Just call IBM support, they will walk you through this. Art Art S. I did get a message from IBM Support suggesting that using "-javahome .jvm.bin" was required, but this had no effect and the same error. I'm up against time pressures here so I've got a 8.04 server install and I've used that instead of the desktop. I'll return to this when I've got more time. Thanks all for assistance.
Hello Simon, Try passing -javahome none to the installer at the command line. For example ./ids_install -console -javahome none This forces the installation script to use the bundled IBM Java Runtime Environment. Hope this helps, PJ To
Well back on 8.04 and all is well - even installs with the current version of java. I can only assume I've got something weird or wacky with the ubuntu 9 desktop. Thanks to all for you patience and assistance Simon
