Renaming DBSPACES or their target chunk files...
Posted in 1996
Would anybody like to share a way to rename DBSPACES (or related information, such as the chunk file name) in OnLine 7.12? The names are stored in the configuration block of the root dbspace, of course, with a backup copy in the next page, as documented in the manuals. In fact, even the format is given. I have no problem writing some utility to go in and re-write the block, the problem is that there must be some "checksum" to indicate to OnLine when corruption has occured so that it can switch to using the backup block. Therefore, I am looking for a rename utility, or for detailed specs of the contents of the page, including any checksum or corruption detection rules. Informix technical support says that they have no such utility (but I think they do, or certainly could lookup the specs or the code from the mainline...). BTW: Since there is only one page (2048 bytes) to store the DBSPACE definitions, does that mean that the number of "long" chunk names is limited to the number that will fit in one page? (e.g., if long file names of 128 characters are used, we could end up with fewer than 16 chunks available?). Thanks for your thoughts... ...Terry. tgauchat@aol.com
