Hello, The INFORMIXDIR is used to find the message and locale files. These files are needed to provide the text for error messages and to perform code set conversion from CLIENT_LOCALE to DB_LOCALE. To find the location of shared libraries, you'd typically follow the SHLIB_PATH (on HP systems) until you found the library. However, you can also get the location of the shared library "hard coded" into the executable (I can't remember how, but if I recall correctly, it has to do with giving the path of the shared library on the -l option of the cc line or the use of the -L option -- but that might be wrong!). The esql and c4gl scripts should compile applications such that the SHLIB_PATH is followed for shared libraries on HP. If you compiled with these scripts, and you find that the libaries are not located using the SHLIB_PATH, please contact Tech Support. If you have a custom makefile that you used to compile the executable, please compare the compile/link commands in your makefile with that of the esql and c4gl scripts. Thanks, Reece
Thanks to everyone for the responses. This clears thing up quite a bit.
