I've even been able to put the logs and DB on the same tape which frees the logs for the next days activity. I was just trying to answer the question of how to do a unattended backup, and in doing so I mentioned the fact that our solution happens to use a no-rewind tape device. I was not suggesting that Pragnesh do this, because if I were suggesting this, I would also be giving the details of how to do the restore. > : [...] > : 4. Can you really redirect the output of a command to a file!?!? :-) We use mail because our contract sysadmin is off-site most of the time and he monitors the backups through mail to his netcom account.(Not my idea) > : [...] > : su - informix -c "/usr/5bin/echo '\\n0' | tbtape -s | mailx -s 'Informix Backup' > : root" > : mt -f $DEVICE offline -- Daniel Wood daniel@starsight.com The opinions expressed herein are those of myself, my employers, the carriers of this news message or any other messages for that matter, you the reader and any of your relations(whether by birth or chromosome count), all life forms and all inanimate objects.
