The DOS Blob Strikes Again!
Posted in 1992
At Feb 19 I posted the letter that follows with NO answers: ------------ Look at this scenario: A TCP/IP Network. One Unix Database Server (Online, Informix-Net, TCP/IP) A lot of PC-DOS Workstations, running an ESQL/C app.. (INET- PC, PC/TCP). This ESQL/C program provides a working environment to chronicle-writers, BUT without built-in word processor. The WP is started from within our program. The program makes updates and querys to the remote (Unix- based) database. Remind: PC-DOS Workstations!! We need: a)To access resources provided by the ON-LINE DB engine, *FROM* this program built under PC-DOS. This implies how to get access to special data types (var-length, DateTime, etc.). b)To pass BLOBS from the DB Server to a workstation, modify them with DOS-based tools and thus restore them to the Database (PC-net-Unix). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Ricardo. ---------------- The doubt still remains.
