The main advantage is that we get to have the redundancy of 2n disks with n+1 disks. Why aren't you using 7.1? It has many tools that let the DBA enhance performance, though most of them are lost if you use RAID5. > The Box will be a DEC Alpha 2100 4/200 with 2 190Mhz processors, 384 Mb > Ram, 6 x 2.1 GB HDD on a 3 Channel EISA controller. The 2 processors would help a lot more under 7.1, and 4 processors would help more than 2x2. The speed curve for adding processors is not at all linear. > Please mail any help to me at keithg@enerco.co.nz I'll also copy this to the CDI forum. > All help would be appreciated > > Thanks in Advance > Keith Gerritsen > Lan Manager > Enerco Gas Auckland New Zealand If you'd like to see it, I gathered together all the messages I saved that pertain to Alpha and sent them all to another guy who asked for it. It is an incomplete list of bugs, version compatibilities, and such. BTW, do you have a bona-fide DBA? OnLine can be complex to manage, and versions higher than 5 really do justify the expense for an installation as large as yours.
