Informix 7.31 on Windows NT4: nettype soctcp
Posted in 2009

Hello,
If, on our Informix servers 7.31 on Windows NT4, I set the nettype parameter
to "soctcp,2,300,NET" or "soctcp,2,300,CPU", I see no difference in the VP's
that are started: soc threads are always started on SOC VP's.
Is that normal?

On windows, yes, all poll threads run in NET VPs. It is documented, but
very subtly. In the Administrator's Reference section on NETTYPE it says:
VP_class: CPU = CPU VPs (on UNIX) NET = Network VPs
Note that it indicates that setting the VP class to CPU uses CPU VPs on
UNIX. In implication is that on Windows it does NOT use CPU VPs. That's
because, IIRC, there is only one CPU VP on windows that launches multiple
CPU VP threads instead of multiple CPU VP processes.
Personally I'd switch to Linux. ;-)

Yes completion ports are used for network IO on Windows, and NET is the only
supported net type. If you use CPU it will be changed back to NET internally.
