First off, You can not run 6.x frontends against the 5.01 servers. Remember, the version of your frontend/application cannot be of higher version then the server/backend. If you elect to upgrade your server to 6.x, then I strongly recommend you upgrade your frontend to 6.x also. The method of communication between the frontend and the server changed, starting on OnLine 6.x. If you elect to use pre-6.x frontends, your applications will have to communicate with the server via SQLRM (a relay module). Doing so, you WILL see a performance degradation. If you upgrade, upgrade both. If you upgrade the server, look into the availability of 7.x for your platform (just released). Ver. 7.x is being treated by Informix as a maintanance release, and will probably be cleaner then ver. 6 Hope this helps.....
