buffwaits & lockwaits

Hi, I would like to know how you guys resolve buffwaits and lockwaits. I have a huge insert/delete/update process which results in buffwaits and lock waits. BUFFERS 150,000LRU 18 CLEANER 18 LRU_MAX_DIRTY 4LRU writes are happening pretty good. Check points are max 1 secs This is a batch window stuff Thanks in advance Dhanesh

Dhanesh, Please post onstat -p output showing the problem. In general one can control the number of lockwaits by changing table lock modes from page to row and by reducing the duration of locks in applications programs. To reduce bufwaits one can increase the number of buffers and increase the number of LRU queues. Bufwaits can be from actual buffer contention but it is normally from LRU queue contention. Post your actual stats, platform, and version information though. Art S.
