Logical log bug

LOGICAL LOG BUG Informix tells me that the logical log problem is indeed a recognized bug in On-line. The fix is scheduled for version 5.03. The bug is number 20392. Informix's description focuses a little differently from mine but the net of it is: A tape error while a logical log is being backed up leaves you with a non-recoverable situation should you need to roll forward from those backed up logs. More specifically, as we have observed here, one or more of your logical logs will not be backed up. As informix says this leaves you with a non-recoverable situation although I suppose there might be some circumstances where the logs in question might not be absolutely prevent a roll forward. But you would, of course, be missing transactions from the missing logical log(s) The work-around is really only hopeful precaution. You are at risk. You need to immediately perform an archival backup at whatever level is the next one scheduled in your operation. From ours that is a level zero and it would seem the wisest level to take anyway if you encounter that problem.
