informix newera 2.12 pessimistic locking

Somebody pl. advise. We are using Informix-Newera 2.12 and Informix online ver 5.0. We are using pessimistic locking in the supertables. Suppose i am working on two different supertables in two different windows simultaneously. I retrieve the records in the first window and start editing the record. now as soon as i start editing the record, it gets locked. now without applying the changes, i go on to the next window and retrieve the reocrds here also and start editing a record here also. after making changes here, i apply the changes to save the record and go on to the first window where i had started editing a record. NOW when i try to apply the record here, it gives me an error -259, Cursor not open. so what i understand that as soon as i apply the record in the first window, all the transactions are committed and all the cursors closed. so how to avoid the closure of the cursor of the first window, where i have not actually applied.
