Re: IDS and Server Studio

Jerry, Mostly I think it is a nice product. The primary reason we recently purchased the product was to enable my backup dba's to perform simple admin functions and to monitor the db's while I'm out of the office. Never fails, as soon as I'm out something happens and this tool will atleast give them the ability to drill down and figure out what's going on. A big point for me since I'm the primary for Sarbannes Oxely audits is that I recently used it to provide nice screenshots as evidence, particularly the drill downs for individual object permissions. The auditors like pretty gui's. Other options that I like is the ability to drill down into a chunk and see the objects on that chunk as well as a job scheduler, permissions editor, table editors, etc.. I still find myself at the command line mostly! I was a little disappointed to findout that a purchase of the enterprise edition did not include the SPL Debugger. I also find their support tends to be unresponsive at times when sending problems via email. I often have to followup with a phone call in order to get a response. Another issue I have is as the primary administrator for the tool I am unable to create more than 1 user id with my email address. This is annoying as hell and I will have to get another involved in the setup to request a separate profile. I think AGS is right on target with the tool with the exception of not including the SPL Debugger ( I think there are 2 more connectivity things that are not included either....read closely on their site!). I believe this should be inclusive and not an extra add on. I guess if I would have read a little closer on their site (www.serverstudio.com) I would have realized that it was not included.
