Check you license agreement, this probably means you are exceeding
your license agreement i.e. running illegally.
I also have a menu driver program but it disconnects from Informix
before running the menu option. Hence it remains legal.
I call a C funtion which does:-
int i,status;
(void) sqlexit();
status = waitpid(-1,&i,0);
if ((status != 0) && (status != ENOCHILD))
{
fprintf(stderr,"OOps , no children");
sleep (4);
exit(-1);
}
Note this is from memory but you get the idea, call sqlexit() and
wait for any child to die (associated sqlexec or sqlturbo process
if there is one). If the wait fails and it is not becuase there are
no children (i.e. we are running on Online 7.x) then print an error
message and die.
This has been tested against SE 4.x and Online 7.1x.

I think it is number of sessions (number of sessions listed in onstat
-u). Note this has changed several times but I belive it is number of
sessions in Online 7.x.
