Hi ISAM guru's, I am writing an application which uses the C-ISAM database engine. I am finding it very slow(when using locking). These are some of the numbers I have gotten for reading 30 records (the size of my database !) sequentially. Each record is 68 bytes, with the primary key being 32 bytes and is CHARTYPE (ISNODUPS+COMPRESS). isopen flag isread flag time(seconds) ISMANULOCK ISLOCK+ISNEXT 36.x ISAUTOLOCK ISNEXT 26.x ISMANULOCK ISNEXT 14.x ISEXCLLOCK ISNEXT 1.x My final database should have the same record length and primary key, but will have a whole lot more records(~16K Max) By the way, my data files are not big. Here's what they look like. -rw-r--r-- 1 somesh SYL 3072 Mar 9 10:01 ructru.db.dat -rw-r--r-- 1 somesh SYL 2048 Mar 9 10:01 ructru.db.idx I am running this on the NEC EWS 4800/210 (a MIPS 3000 machine). How should I do this? My initial feeling is to use ISEXCLLOCK, and route any requests to the database through the database process (serializing the access)? Is there anything else I could do? Any advise, comments would be appreciated. Does anyone from Informix read this group?
