Transaction log under SE v5.

What can I get away with with the transaction log under a ANSI database. The log I have is near the max file size for the OS (solaris) can I just close the database, delete the log (or archive it) and open another log. How should I be managing these log files? Any help would be appreciated. tom hamilton
