Could you please supply some info about the disk config of this machine.
The internal drive on the Ultra5 is not the 'most performant' in the
world!
Where is the data coming from that you are trying to load into the
database?
For an 'opinion' on general Sun performance issues, try www.sunworld.com
and look down the lhs of the page for 'SE Toolkit'. The latest version
has support for Solaris7. Run 'examples/virtual_adrian.se' and see what
he has to say while your data load is going on.

Andy, There are currently two internal 9 gig eide disks. We are thinking about adding external scsi. The data is coming from a PBX. Thank you for the response. Ieeee, EIDE is NOT a good choice for databases such as IDS which can try to access the drives using multiple threads! EIDE is essentially a single user interface and performs poorly in this environment. Go for SCSI and again make sure you have enough spindles (drives) to isolate rootdb, physical log, logical log and data onto separate drives. Art S. Kagel
