JL: I dunno why, but I got 4 copies of this... ---------- From: Markus Kaiser[SMTP:m.kaiser@sz-newsline.de] Sent: Friday, January 30, 1998 12:38 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Q: ESQL/C, Perl DBI Hello Informix-Wizards, in order to connect a Web-Server to an Informix Online 7.21 Database I'm planning to use Perl DBI,DBD-Informix. JL: OK; seems like a good idea to me, but I'm biassed. Now, I'm trying to find out 1) how many development / runtime licences of ESQL/C I need, when there's one developer (that's me) and no more than two people coming by WWW should use the DB at the same time and 2) whether I have to install ESQL/C at the same computer the DB is running on ? JL: You could have two to four machines in your environment, and it isn't clear to me JL: from your description exactly how many you have. The four possible machines are: 1. Development machine for DBD::Informix (Machine-1). 2. Development machine for database engine (Machine-2). 3. Runtime machine for DBD::Informix (Machine-3). 4. Runtime machine for database engine (Machine-4). JL: Machine-1 needs at least a 1-user ESQL/C Development licence. If Machine-3 is the JL: same as Machine-1, then you also need a 2-user Informix-Connect licence on the JL: machine, or something like a 4-user ESQL/C Development licence. If Machine-3 is JL: separate from Machine-1, then you need a 2-user Informix-Connect licence on it. JL: Machine-2 needs at least a 1-user SE or OnLine Development licence. If Machine-4 JL: is the same as Machine-2, then you also need a 2-user SE or OnLine Runtime licence JL: for the machine, or (again) something like a 4-user SE or OnLine development licence. JL: If Machine-4 is separate from Machine-2, then you need a 2-user SE or OnLine Runtime JL: licence on it. What experiences do you have with the mentioned tools ? JL: Lot's. They're basically good tools. You might want to investigate 7.24 in preference JL: to 7.21,but other than that, they're OK. JL: Of course, my views are quite biassed both because I'm an ex-Informix employee and JL: because I (re)wrote DBD::Informix.
