My company is looking into Enterprise Replication for Informix 7.23 for a hot site backup. My first 2 questions are: Is this an appropriate vehicle for a hot site backup? Do we need the same type of server ( or another server with the same power) in order to replicate the entire database as a hot site backup)? Thanks in advance, Howard E. Rock

I think that with EDR the replicants do not have to be identical. Art S. Kagel
I am Looking to do the same thing but I have concerns. We are on 7.30.UC8 for NCR but are moving to Sun Sparcs in the near future. "Art S. In this situation should we be following a the 'update anywhere' model or is the primary-target OK. I am reluctant to use the former as (I imagine) it will mean some serious re-engineering of applications re serial fields. > > > > Do we need the same type of server ( or another server with the same power) > > in order to replicate the entire database as a hot site backup)? > > I think that with EDR the replicants do not have to be identical > > Art S. EDR seems to be safe an reliable in all but the earliest 7.30 releases, much more so than any of the 7.2x releases by reports, but the 7.31 releases add new compression options, greatly reduce communications overhead and handshaking overhead, and generally improve the process and its speed. These were specific 7.31 design goals and seem to have been met very well. Art S.
