free pages on dbspace

Hi All, In one of our dbspace we had total of 2728180 pages and 40385 of which are free. Do we need to think to increase the number of pages or we can wait at which level? Please advise me.
Assuming the data in that space grows, I would add a good sized chunk to that dbspace. --EEM > -----Original Message----- > From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of > DEEPAK JOSHI > Sent: Wednesday, November 11, 2009 10:46 AM > To: ids@iiug.org > Subject: free pages on dbspace [18055] > > Hi All, > > In one of our dbspace we had total of 2728180 pages and 40385 of which > are > free. > > Do we need to think to increase the number of pages or we can wait at > which > level? > > Please advise me. > > > *********************************************************************** > ******** > Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in the discussion forum.
We run a cron script every 4 hours that checks if the free is less than 20%. We then add more based on the growth speed. If I understood what you mean, 1.5% pages free is critical environment for every OLTP/OLAP system. Your instance are, probably, stopping because the low level space availably. Or, this instance don´t need growing any more, like historycal environment. regards João Ricardo Oliveira ----- Original Message ----- From: "DEEPAK JOSHI" <djoshih@hotmail.com> To: <ids@iiug.org> Sent: Wednesday, November 11, 2009 12:45 PM Subject: free pages on dbspace [18055] > Hi All, > > In one of our dbspace we had total of 2728180 pages and 40385 of which are > free. > > Do we need to think to increase the number of pages or we can wait at > which > level? > > Please advise me. > > > ******************************************************************************* > Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in the discussion forum. > >
That's going to depend on how much free space there is in the existing extents of you tables. If not much then they will soon try to add extents and each up the remaining free space, if the tables still have several month's worth of unused space within their existing extents then you can wait. Safest to add space now. That way you won't have to deal with a frantic phone call st 2AM later! Art Art S.
