Next best bet is a UNION, but if your SQL is not even up to outer
join, you might not be able to form the equivalent
select *
from aTable X left outer join anotherTable Y
on X.val = Y.val
(or)
select * from aTableX, anotherTable Y
where X.val *= Y.val
... equivalent:
select * from aTable X, anotherTable Y
where X.val = Y.val
union
select *, NULL, NULL, ... NULL
from aTable X
where not exists(
select * from anotherTable Y
where X.val = Y.val)Engineers believe that the equations approximate reality.
Physicists believe that reality approximates the equations.
Mathematicians never make the connection.
