RE: Raw vs. cooked

We have done similar testing in the same environment on a H50. Both our test environments used the same disks. We tried both using raid and not using raid. The raw was so much faster we did not even bother getting exact measurements. Are you sure your speed differences were not due to the different hardware setups. I would suggest that they were. -----Original Message----- From: FProse [SMTP:fprose@rocketmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, May 11, 1999 3:55 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Raw vs. cooked Using AIX 4.1 and DynamicServer 7.2 on a four processor RS6000, I found cooked beat raw by a margin of 15%. This was running against Clarion array disks, the raw was non-raid, the cooked was raid-5. The local Informix people checked my results and went away shaking their heads.
