If there's nothing in INFORMIXDIR that you want to preserve, then removing the whole directory is safe. If there's something you need to preserve, then you should check out the IIUG website http://www.iiug.org for the uninstall tool ixremove. I can't give you a more exact location; at the moment the connection to the web site is not operational from inside the Informix firewall.
