how to insert text into memo-blob ?

i have a little problem with an informix online 7.2 (?). on the client, there is an informix-cli 2.5 and i can insert text with carriage returns ("\\r\\n") into the memo-blob without problem: "insert into table_a (num, text) values ('1', 'this is a text');" on a client with informix cli 2.8 with the same statemant, i get an sql-error: -617: "blob data type must be supplied within this context"or -202: "illegal character in statemant" the linebreaks have to be in the blob-memo, because it's not me who is reading it out again, and they need the line-breaks.... can anyone help me inserting text into blob-memo with pure SQL ? thanks in advance christoph

I don't think it can be done. This is a result of recent conversations I've had on this newsgroup. I have no problem selecting into a blob, or updating a blob ( with another blob ) , but as far inserteing text straight into a blob , either in a table filed or simply into a program variable it just did not work out for me. We use a set of C functions at our site which enable you to put strings into blobs etc. I'd be willing to help you out as I know what a pain in the ares it can be. E-mail me.
