Hmm, I remember going through the same sort of process, and then being by tech support told that 'tbmode -z' was broken on V4 for Sun. Perhaps it's broken for you too. kill -9 is dangerous, and will bring down the engine if the task you kill is in a critical state. You can find out more if you 'tbstat -u' and look at the flags for the process you want to get rid of. The other thing to do is to look at what that process is doing. Beware the process that doesn't respond cos its trying hard to join all the tables in your database. 'tbmode -z' should wait until the task is completely inactive before closing it up. You have to do the same. Good luck!
