Well, you know what I mean, of course are there processes) > We have similar problems (to which no solution has yet been found). 1. Sometimes a 4gl does not get SIGHUP (or ignores it) when the line drops. The stupid thing then sits there busy-waiting, eating every free cycle in the machine. Trace shows no system calls while this is going on, so I can't imagine what it's doing. 2. Sometimes during heavy report preparation the OnLine 'locks up', with what looks like a deadlock on systables. LOCK MODE is set to WAIT 60, and ISOLATION is set to DIRTY READ. How can this be happening? (The report generation *does* include multiple processes writing to the same table (LOCK MODE ROW), but I don't understand the deadlock condition; I would have thought that 1. the deadlock would have been detected, or 2. one of the processes would fail with a lock-timeout condition.
